Privacy Policy — Screen Sherpa

📋 Overview

Screen Sherpa is designed with privacy at its core. We collect only the minimum data necessary to perform AI-powered assistance in the moment you ask for it. Screenshots and uploaded files are processed in real-time and immediately discarded — they are never stored on our servers.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the Screen Sherpa Chrome extension and its associated backend service collect, how that information is used, and the choices you have. By using Screen Sherpa, you agree to the practices described here.

📦 Data We Collect

Screen Sherpa only collects data in direct response to an explicit action you take. We do not passively monitor your browsing. The following data types may be transmitted to our backend:

A screenshot of your current browser tab — captured only when you click the "Ask" button. Never taken in the background.

✍️ Form Field Data

Content from form fields on a page — read only when you invoke the AI Form Fill feature. We do not read form data passively.

📎 Uploaded Files & Images

Files or images you explicitly attach to a conversation. Only transmitted when you choose to attach them.

💬 Your Messages

The text prompts you type into the Screen Sherpa interface to formulate your questions or requests.

We do not collect: your browsing history, keystrokes, passwords, payment information, personally identifiable information beyond what you voluntarily type, or any data from pages you visit without explicitly activating Screen Sherpa.

⚙️ How Data Is Used

All data described above is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS to Screen Sherpa's secure backend solely for the purpose of generating AI-powered responses. Specifically:

Screenshots and uploaded files are passed to our AI processing pipeline to interpret and respond to your query.
Form field data is analysed to intelligently populate form fields on your behalf.
Your text messages are used to construct the prompt sent to the AI model.
No data is used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond the immediate AI response you requested.

🗑️ Data Retention

Screenshots and uploaded files are processed in real-time and immediately discarded. They are not written to disk, not stored in any database, and not retained after the AI response is generated.

Text message content used to form a prompt may be retained in server logs for a limited period for operational purposes (e.g., error debugging), after which it is automatically purged. We do not build persistent profiles of users.

🤝 Third Parties

We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to any third party. Ever.

Our backend infrastructure may use third-party AI model providers to process queries. These providers receive only the data necessary to generate a response (e.g., a screenshot + your question) and are contractually prohibited from using that data for their own purposes, training, or advertising.

We do not embed third-party advertising SDKs, social media trackers, or analytics libraries in the Screen Sherpa extension or its associated web pages.

💾 Local Storage (Your Device)

The Screen Sherpa extension stores a small amount of data locally on your device using the Chrome Storage API. This data never leaves your device and includes:

Server URL — the endpoint used to reach Screen Sherpa's backend (configurable by you).
Authentication token — used to authenticate your requests to the backend, if applicable.
User preferences — any settings or configuration options you have chosen within the extension.

To delete all locally stored data, simply uninstall the Screen Sherpa extension from Chrome. This will remove all preferences and tokens stored by the extension on your device.

🚫 Tracking, Cookies & Analytics

The Screen Sherpa extension does not:

Set or read browser cookies for tracking purposes.
Include analytics trackers (e.g., Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Segment).
Build a behavioural profile of you across websites.
Show or deliver advertisements of any kind.
Track which websites you visit outside of explicit AI assist interactions.

This website (screensherpa.ai) may use minimal, privacy-respecting web analytics to understand page traffic. No personal identifiers are collected in this process.

✅ Your Rights & Choices

Because we do not store screenshots, uploads, or persistent user profiles, most conventional data deletion requests are satisfied automatically — there is simply nothing to delete. However, you always have the right to:

Request confirmation of what data (if any) we hold about you.
Request deletion of any stored operational logs that may contain your information.
Uninstall the extension at any time, which removes all locally stored data immediately.
Contact us with any privacy questions or concerns.

👶 Children's Privacy

Screen Sherpa is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to remove such information.

📝 Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Effective date" at the top of this page. For significant changes, we will provide a more prominent notice. Your continued use of Screen Sherpa after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
